Residential Hot Water End Use
- Abstract With domestic energy bills spiraling higher and higher, there is a renewed focus on energy efficiency and conservation in residences. As the second largest user of energy in the residential sector, water heating has been often overlooked source of energy savings. Detailed and reliable data on hot water heating, hot water consumption, and the end uses of hot water in the residential sector are lacking. These data are important for the design of efficient water heating systems. The information in this article begins to fill the gap in knowledge of hot water use patterns in residential settings. This article also describes a promising analysis technique that can be utilized to collect accurate hot water end use data inexpensively.
