Slide Show on Molten Salt Reactors for Boulder,CO

These are the slides from the presentation of April 20, 2017 on use of MSRs to supply non-carbon based power for the City’s energy future.  We have made some modifications to help clarify that molten salt reactors are a type of reactor, of which there are many proposed configurations.  Some of these rely on burning Uranium, much as current plants do, and others plan to use Thorium as part of a thermal breeding process. (e.g. the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor, of LFTR).  Not all MSRs use Thorium, and not all of them are breeders. All MSRs however, offer benefits compared to current pressurized water reactors.  It remains to be seen how these designs will progress to commercialization.
